Microsoft are currently rolling out a feature update to Microsoft Teams on iOS and Android whereby users will have an option to reduce the bandwidth used while in video calls and meetings.
You will be able to change this by going into the settings within the Teams app and select from the following Reduce data usage options.
- Never – default.
- Cellular – reduces the bandwidth when no Wifi connectivity is available.
- Always – reduces the bandwidth on both Wifi and Cellular connections.
This feature will limit the bandwidth to an average of 500 kbps and will enable the best quality experience possible by reducing the number of visible video participants along with other bandwidth conditions.
When will this happen?
This update is already being rolled out and will be completed by mid-March. For more information see Microsoft 365 Roadmap ID 70786.
